Academics
French
The goal of Ruppel Academie Francaise is to develop French as a second language. Students will begin with listening and speaking in the elementary grades and progress to reading and writing in French by middle school. Beginning in 3rd grade, students will take the AAPPL assessment annually to measure progress toward French language proficiency. By the end of 8th grade, students should be proficient enough in French to earn credit for high school level French I and French II.
English Language Arts
The English Language Arts department is committed to nurturing our students to become the best readers, writers, listeners, and oral speakers possible. By the time they graduate high school, students will have the skills necessary to achieve success in college and career pathway. Students will be challenged to read various types of text, including literature and information resources, to think critically, to locate evidence to back up their assertions, and to use this evidence in their writings or speeches. Additionally, students will become more adept at using the conventions of Standard English including grammar and mechanics. The team members within the ELA department promote higher achievement by presenting the Louisiana state standards in a supportive and nurturing environment.
English language arts is taught using the advanced grade level curriculum materials. Eighth grade students take English I for high school credit.
Math
The Math Department promotes a rigorous, coherent, and focused mathematics education program for all of our students. We teach the Louisiana State Standards in a clear and in-depth manner, which allows our students the opportunity to be successful in math. In addition to mastering the math content that is taught, our students will also explain their understanding, justify and critique reasoning, apply problem solving skills to real world examples, and connect different math skills to each other and to the real world.
In elementary grades, math is taught using rigorous on grade level Eureka math curriculum materials. As students move into middle school, the math curriculum becomes more advanced, so that students are prepared to take high school level Algebra I in 8th grade.
Science
Science Inquiry is a process in which students learn to develop high level thinking or critical thinking skills by developing questions or explanations about our natural world. These questions or explanations are developed by testing, investigating, collecting data and analyzing data that will either support or reject their original ideas about the world.
Ruppel uses the on grade level StemScopes curriculum for science courses.
Social Studies
The Louisiana social studies standards require students to think critically while learning important content. At Ruppel, students delve into various text materials to think critically about the key themes in social studies. Students use important literacy skills to locate evidence in text and to provide reasoning when they make claims.
